Operation Bootstrap Africa
A Minnesota-based, non-profit, inter-denominational organization dedicated to helping people help themselves in a variety of educational programs in Africa

Programs

The Bootstrap ideal is spreading throughout Africa and is growing daily. In cooperation with local churches, agencies and governments, OBA is working to help people help themselves in a variety of educational and medical programs in areas such as Madagascar and Zimbabwe, as well as Tanzania. We need your help in addressing the following needs:

TANZANIA:

Classrooms/Teachers' Quarters

Operation Bootstrap has made outstanding progress helping to construct classrooms and teacher's quarters throughout the country. However, many villages are still lacking the most basic learning facilities and raising money for classrooms remains a strong focus for OBA.

Desks

OBA classroom grants include desks but many other classrooms have no desks. The OBA Desk Project helps provide desks for children.

MaaSae Girls Lutheran Secondary School (MGLSS) Scholarships

Scholarships provide a year of tuition, room and board, uniforms and books at MaaSae Girls Lutheran Secondary School in Monduli. This northern Tanzanian school provides Maasai women the opportunity to attend secondary school, something that until recently has not been an option for most Maasai women. More Information...

Moringe Sokoine Secondary School Scholarships

Scholarships provide a year of varied support to selected students at the coeducational Moringe Sokoine Secondary School. This school is also located in Monduli, Tanzania.

Primary Health Care Assistance

In 1991 came the opportunity of assisting with Selian Lutheran Hospital in Arusha, and its associated maternal and child care clinics and dental clinics. Designated funds help these exciting new projects. More Information...

MADAGASCAR: Teachers Support

In large areas, especially in the south, only 1 in 10 children receive primary instruction with only 1 in 50 receiving secondary education! Many classrooms sit empty, while qualified teachers seek employment. Operation Bootstrap enables more students to receive an education by assisting with teachers' salaries in the southern part of the island. A teacher's salary is never more than $1000 (US) per year.

ZIMBABWE: Youth Contact Centre Scholarships

With half of the country's population under the age of 25, Zimbabwe's needs for education are tremendous. The Youth Contact Centre provides educational opportunities for Zimbabwean youth and young adults who desire to complete their education. The prospects for progress in this young nation recovering from the ravages of war are truly inspirational. The David Emerson Memorial Scholarship Fund offers opportunity for a full tuition scholarship for several students each year.

YOU CAN HELP:

Operation Bootstrap Africa is made possible by contributions from our ever-growing Bootstrap family. Without these prayerful gifts, we could not continue the vital work that means everything to African children and their families.
Through OBA you, your family, your church, your school, your civic or community group can join hands with our African family as we move in partnership to achieve their goals for education and health care.
